Peppol is an international network that allows governments, service providers and businesses to send and receive electronic (business-critical) documents easily, securely and efficiently.<\/p>\n
Peppol is standard for E-invoicing, E-procurement and E-ordering. Peppol allows you to do business globally: independent of underlying software and without human interaction.<\/p>\n
Since 2017, Dutch and Belgian suppliers have had to submit invoices electronically via a secure network to public bodies. From 1 January 2026, Belgium will introduce mandatory B2B e-invoicing. This obligation applies to Belgian VAT taxpayers, but also to foreign taxpayers carrying out activities in Belgium. Other countries are likely to follow soon.<\/p>\n
In short: for B2B and B2G communication, an access point to Peppol is increasingly a must.<\/p>\n

Peppol does not change existing electronic messaging technologies. If sender and receiver are registered, then electronic document exchange can take place directly.
\nTo gain access to the Peppol network, a company must register through a validation process where legitimacy is checked. Registration is based on (unique) ID numbers such as Chamber of Commerce or VAT numbers, IBAN numbers and OIN numbers for government agencies. A Peppol Access Point is required to communicate over this network. A Billing Service Provider (BSP) provides an access point and controls the registration of Peppol Access Point providers. Peppol automatically detects whether the recipient can receive electronic documents over the network. Documents and invoices are automatically read and sent from your ERP system or accounting software. Additional information can also be sent, such as a catalogue accompanying an order.<\/p>\n

\nWith Peppol, an invoice arrives directly in the receiving party’s accounts and not in a physical mailbox or e-mail box. So you can be sure that your invoice arrives at the right place.<\/p>\n
\nCompanies that invoice the (central) government are obliged to do so via a secure network. Municipalities and semi-governments only accept e-invoices.<\/p>\n
\nBecause invoices enter directly into the receiving party’s administration, manual actions are no longer required and invoice processing is faster. Your invoices are thus more likely to be paid faster.<\/p>\n
\nGhost invoices are very annoying and almost indistinguishable from genuine invoices. Within the Peppol network, all senders and recipients are validated.
